TODAY’S SERMON:
It is great to be able to look at the Bible and talk a little bit about God again with you. What we have been talking about is deepening our relationship with God and one another. One of the ways we do this is through sharing our experiences of God with each other. This helps us to see how God is working in other people’s lives and it opens us up to see how God is working in our lives in a way that we did not see it before. Another way we deepen our relationship with God and one another is through admitting our doubt when it creeps in. This allows our spiritual friends to help us to not give up and instead, with their help, to move closer to God. We also deepen our relationship with God and one another when we allow Jesus to open the scriptures to us. It is like the Bible is a window through which we look. Do you know what it is like to be looking through a window and then to suddenly focus on the window itself instead? The Bible is like the window, and we look through the Bible to see who God is on the other side. And we deepen our relationship with God and one another when we allow Jesus to be our Good Shepherd. We do this by listening to his voice above all others. Last time we talked about how we deepen our relationship with God and one another by allowing Jesus to become our cornerstone as we become living stones helping together to build God’s kingdom on earth. Okay, so we are sharing with each other, we are helping each other to move closer to Jesus, we are trying to keep Jesus’ voice foremost in our minds so that he can lead us and guide us, and we are working together to build the kingdom. All of this is part of the worldview through which we choose to see the world and to live our lives. In the next few minutes, I want to dive a little deeper into that worldview, by looking at two scriptures, one from John and the other from Acts.
